jupiterroom 0 1 Cars Posted May 18, 2019 Hi - first post. Just purchased a 1.9 Sorrento Green limited edition, been lurking in the forums for a while, but figured I'd say 'hi' Quick question - does anyone have any details (ideally pics) of the original spec of my car? I'm trying to get it back to absolute original spec and want to ensure it looks right. Couple of things spring to mind so far: 1. Are the front indicators orange or clear? 2. The outer trim looks black. I can't tell if it's supposed to be that colour or if someones sprayed it. The interior trim is grey. I'd always expected they'd match. Rich. jackherer 543 Posted May 18, 2019 Welcome to the forum! If it's definitely a limited edition sorrento green then the front indicators should be orange and the exterior trim should be grey. However if it is a later non limited edition sorrento green it's the other way round, clear indicators and black (technically darker grey) trim inside and out. What year is it? jupiterroom 0 1 Cars Posted May 18, 2019 Hey Jack - realised after I posted I probably should have added the year. It's an H reg, registered in August 1990. The chap I purchased it from was adamant it was a genuine LE based on the following: Door cards having a grey lower trim grey carpet Full leather It has the grey interior rather than black Badges are grey It has the earlier coolant bottle also which is the best give away. What's the definitive way to tell other than the above? Not hugely fussed if it is or isn't to be honest, I just love the car and was in budget. Just care more now about having it original as possible. Rich.
Leslie green 81 Posted May 18, 2019 Hi and welcome everybody who is selling a green or blue gti claims its an LE but yours sounds like it might be as its a 1990 with grey leather and grey carpet .
jackherer 543 Posted May 18, 2019 That does sound like it is a limited edition to me, that list of parts are all correct. I think the non limited edition Sorrentos were released in 1991. Which style rear lights does it have? You might get more info if you put the VIN into http://205gti.info/vin/vin.htm
jupiterroom 0 1 Cars Posted May 19, 2019 Rear lights: You can also see the "black" outer trim here. If it does turn out to have been painted, is there anyway to uncover the original plastic without damaging it?
jackherer 543 Posted May 19, 2019 Those are the correct rear lights for a LE. That trim and bumper does look like it's been painted or dyed. I have no idea how you would remove it, and it depends on what was used in the first place. Some people have had good results painting bumpers and trim in lighter shades so that might be the solution for you too.
