Wishbone balljoint condition

Is there a proper way to check the condition of wishbone balljoints when these are off the car?

Generally If there is any play they are shot as on the car it will be worse under load.

Its hard to assess them not on a car as you've no leverage, one way you can try is clamp the balljoint shank in a vice and then pull/push/tug on the wishbone and see if you can feel movement.
