Competition Beehive Valve Springs

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of any manufacturer of competition Beehive Valve Springs for an XU9J4?

I'm going to slowly start putting a spare engine together for my tarmac rally car and as Peter T's cams will be going in on solid lifters I'm going to need to upgrade the valve springs too.

Thanks!

It sounds like a good idea. I use Z1000 titanium retainers and K20 springs. The gold PAC single springs are also very good and keep the costs down if you're not revving past 8000.

Hi Peter,

Z1000 being a Kawasaki and K20 being (coughs) Honda lol.

Are the k20 springs Beehive type or double?

what do you use as the spring base ??..standard mi16?

K20 are double. They're a Supertech replacement. Can't recall the number just now. Z900/Z1000 titanium from APE are perfect because they're also 7deg x 7mm. I make the bases myself from 4340, which double as the shim height. You need to reduce the OD of the guide boss.

That beehive kit kit may well be ok, but you'll need a 7x7 retainer, if using Mi16 valves.

Ok thank Peter.

Would the k20 base plate not work?

I'm also seeing 67lbs and 95lbs springs for k20.. which do you recommend..

I have no idea if the K20 base will drop straight in without modification to the guide boss. You need to have approx 90lbs 39mm.

Oh btw.. your stg2 and stg3 solid inlet cams..do they require that the head is machined to clear the cam lobes?
