No sump gasket on air con car

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi, i have 205 with factory air con and my sump is leaking.

i saw the prevoius owner used a gasket (which is hard as a rock hence why it's leaking) but the peugeot manual says to replace the gasket with rtv when you have air con - which i want to avoid if possible.

My question is can i get away with using  the regular gasket or i have to use the rtv (i have both) ?

Thanks

Ido

P.s.  i think the peugeot manual says that because all the weight of the a/c compressor and the a/c tensioner is on the sump

Generally speaking, on an alloy sump (like yours) I would always use a good quality RTV in preference - you have to ensure that the surfaces are fully degreased and won't get contaminated before the RTV fully sets though, which can be a pain with the engine in-situ and oil running down the inside surfaces of the block.  A gasket will usually work OK though.

The original sealent was

Autojoint AJ 66  (peugeot part # 9735.69)

Which was a loctite product hense why i contact them for replacement.

I'm not a fan, but go for it. The world has come a long way since 1986. You'll appreciate 1211 when it comes time to remove it.

I think everyone has their various favourite sealant.

I use Wurth RTV silicone, or Stag Wellseal. Depends on the application.
