Mi16 blanked off thermostat housing

Recommended Posts

Hello, I'm wanting to blank the bypass pipe on my thermostat housing. Just wondering how you guys have done it? I've took the pipe out from the housing as I didn't want to use a rubber blank. Pictures would be great.

Also, how many of you run a water cooler for the oil filter? Mines only a road car so is it really needed?

Thanks danny

I just cut it off and got it welded shut with a piece of aluminium.

It's the outlet at the rear where the bypass pipe comes out indeed. The hole is a bit bigger than the pipe itself which sist a bit further down into the hole that comes to the surface of thr casting if I remember correctly. But I just made a circular blanking plate and placed on top of it and welded shut. Couldn't find any picture just now.

Heat it up with oxy torch, withdraw the pipe, tap 1/2" BSP and screw in a socket headed blanking plug. It's a lot neater than welding.
