Ring seal

Recommended Posts

mmt

Hi all,

I am trying to change the smal crankshaft ringseal on my 2.0  mi 16. However the seal will not move at all. Are there any special tricks removing the old seal. Screwdriver and hammer seems to be only option left? It is really stuck there.

Thanks

As in timing chest seal? Ideally you need some aluminium bar, slightly smaller in OD than the seal. Then knock it out with a BFH.

Yes- thats the one. I'll find something about the same size and a BFH.

Thanks Peter.

Do I knock it from outside and in or from inside out? Or no difference?

to remove the old one screw a self tapper into it and pull it with pliers.

use a suitable socket to tap the new one in

It makes no difference which way, but it's best to make sure the aluminium is well supported around the seal, if it's well and truly stuck and it needs a big hit. You don't want to crack the casing.

Installation is easy. Use the spacer as per the pic.

Got it solved. Really easy to get the new seal in. One step closer to completion of engine.
