mmt 14 Posted September 29, 2017 Hi guys, What is considered to be the Best gear Oil with a plate diff installed? Race only. Which Oil do you guys use ?
welshpug 1,622 Posted September 29, 2017 standard synchro gearset and you need to use normal 75w80, you can add some redline friction modifier to quieten the plates down, ensure it is not EP type oil. Total have supplied the BV oils to PSA for years, it has been changed recently to a straight 75w formula which is backwards compatible with all BE and MA boxes. if its a dog gearset then go with whatever the diff manufacturer recommends, this tends to be very incompatible with peugeot synchros. mmt 14 Posted September 29, 2017 Thanks. Not too worried about plate noise:-) Would a Castrol Syntrans V FE 75W-80 be suitable? http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-92422-castrol-syntrans-v-fe-75w-80-manual-transmission-fluid.aspx Or Would a Castrol Axle Z Limited Slip 90 be better? https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Castrol-Axle-Z-Limited-Slip-90-was-Hypoy-LS90-1-LITRE-1L-/161174862032 Or???? welshpug 1,622 Posted September 29, 2017 go to your local motorfactor or dealer, get 75w80, will be far cheaper.
petert 550 Posted September 30, 2017 I've been using Penrite Pro Gear 75W-90 for a while now. It already has some friction modifier built in and seems to play nice with the synchros. I found that Castrol Syntrax was definitely not compatible with BE1/BE3 synchros.

wicked 103 3 Cars Posted September 30, 2017 The syntrax is full synthetic; afaik you should avoid full synthetic.
