Facebook is just show off/attention seeking , gossip and privacy prostitution .

I hated the damn thing ever since it appeared . It wiped out a lot of forums and people’s brain cells too.

Go on Mr. Sarty , you can do it ! push the tempo !!
Struggling quite a bit here too... It was never as hard as it is nowadays making such projects .

Oh, btw, how do those gauges look from the driving position?
I think I’ll need to move mine down to the center console too on a 406

I just don’t like them being on the A pillar very much looks a bit chavy ..

Still here & interested Rich, strangely I thought about this project just last week while I was putting the intercooler back on my Megane after fixing a boost leak.

Funnily enough mentioning Facebook, this forum is clearly still used by people looking for answers through search engines because I've seen one or two posts requesting help that have used things I've posted within here as their reference and wanting confirmation.

Unlucky about the die grinding bit but at least @Goliathis still there to help, waiting for an update on the Jayemm 205 Youtube project he was mentioned in.

Keep 'soldiering on' with this, we need to see it completed!!

I am utterly delighted to hear from you all. So chuffed.

I don't mean it from an attention POV; that's just not me, as those who know me would testify.

It was interesting to check & see if the passion is still out there, especially on this now quite specialised platform.

A-pillar gauges = totally chav. I'm not a racer. I'm not a chav. They're fine just where they are. More of a point of interest & occasional reassurance. If I'm driving a car that might die any moment, then I've done things wrong.

My peripheral vision will monitor them.

Niggles & final jobs (& status):

- runs rich on the base map. I hate running it.

- front wipers & washer packed up so to speak (missed connection in engine bay fuse box & seized pump). *Made connection, removed, tested & whacked the pump - FIXED*

- rear spoiler was scabby (bubbled paint) *removed, sanded down, resprayed, sanded again & again, resprayed & lacquered. Ready to refit - FIXED*

- glovebox door wouldn't refit. *Modified & refitted with magnets*

- alternator whine through (ridiculous) sound system. *Fault finding for ground loops plus fitting a ground loop isolator. FIXED*

- Nearside drop link fouls on wheel on hard lock. Wheel spacers fitted. Tracking is out & N/S still fouls, which is made worse with wheel balancing weights. *IN PROGRESS - Need this resolved. Maybe the tracking then the 18" wheels will help*

- Emerald O2/wide-band lambda functions correctly (green light) but doesn't read at ECU. *Emerald will rectify when we go mapping*

So apart from post-mapping loom tidying once I know it all works, we're really talking minor stuff.

But that's how it goes eh?

We seek perfection... eventually. It's not easy.

So...

You have boosted me. Damir, PeterT, Graham, Wicked to name a few, hanging on there with me.

George (Goliath) has been a giant... literally... throughout the whole journey. (Meirion) Welshpug & Jeremy & others have muscled in with brain & physical know-how, as well as Kieran (Jackherer) occasionally.

If I didn't mention you personally I apologise.

NEXT STEPS:

- Deal with remaining niggles

- Phone Emerald, book & arrange a trip to Norfolk (from Bristol) with George. I'm sure Kieran will meet us there.

- Book a post-mapping MoT

- Brim it with V-Power

- Map it

- Drive it back to the south west with a huuuuge grin

- Learn the car

- Track it, road it around Europe, tweak it

- ENJOY IT

Perfection is a b*** . I’m not sure if it ties in with age or experience, or likely both .
But yeah it just makes for slower progress , more thorough work but slower overall .

"Done" is most of the time better than perfect !

Funny enough it works both ways...

I already had my longwinding project on the RR in autumn last year to get an initial map and engine break-in...

The good news was that the engine was still in one part afterwards, but was the bad news was that it was leaking on the hockey sticks (and some issues that are resolved meanwhile).

And as life get in the way, i postponed it...
After reading your post, I decided it should be mapped before Xmas, so start dismantling to remove the gearbox..... With a fully stuffed engine bay it is way more work than pulling the box from an ordinary NA; the complete exhaust manifold has to be removed to get access to the gearbox bolts.
