Recommended Posts

flyfisher

I've been offered a xsara vts gearbox for my mi16 powered cti. Am I right in thinking there are 2 types a 1.8 and a 2 litre which one is the one for the job. I know the near side drive sharft will not fit but can be modified to do so What other mods would I need to do any pitfalls doing these thanks for any advise peter

UK vts was only ever a 167 bhp XU10J4RS.

FIt a 205 diff, swap top selector arm for 205 flat type, fit Push type clutch fork and arm.

oh and swap the speedo drive cogs and speedo drive itself for a 205 item.

You can, but it's not really the correct way to do it in my opinion - although plenty of people do with apparent success and the end result probably isn't much worse in terms of dubious tolerances than a typical "refurb" driveshaft.

The 1.8 VTS was an Irish version AFAIK - not officially sold here, but they do occasionally crop up as imports. It's more akin to our VTR in terms of spec AFAIK.
