Bilstein Coilovers I.d And Spring Issues.

Bit of a tricky question to answer but please have a go.

I've searched many times but can't seem to identify the kind of Bilstiens I have(mainly the inserts) numbers stamped are 1505X DE 788 OMO they are similar to the numbers on the kam racing site for there coilovers, possibly revolved?

Any way my second problem, when un sprung there is around 11inches between the bottom of the spring seat (wound all the way down) and the top spring seat. Is this the full travel of the damper? It currently has 10.5 inch springs on it and even wound fully down it sits ridiculously high, much higher then standard. As bought second hand I am unsure of the spring rates but they do seem pretty stiff like 0 movement in the front.

Any way I was considering putting some 7inch 330lbs springs on and then run like a 4 inch helper. Would this give me a better ride hieght whist keeping as much damper travel as possible?.

Coilover novice so any help aprieciate.

Hope that all makes sense.

look for more numbers, usually some along the lines of 2500 1500 or 250 150 if they are competition type units.

70 Id springs is common on Bilsteins coilovers, seats are available in 2.25" and 2.5" if you want to change them though.

Can't see any more visible numbers, where should they be? The numbers for the bodies are 1004XRA 5947 OHO. Any thoughts on why it sitseems so high, there in good nick hardly used so don't think they need a rebuild or anything. Ah might change the seats as looks like a much better variety in smaller sizes

I'm not sure on the numbers but my guess is they're very early variants intended for rally cars hence the high ride height. People often struggle to get them to run at lowered ride heights.

numbers are usually on the top of the insert so if you have them fitted you'll have to take the top spring cap off to see them.

I found this part number on the spoox site for the long top spindle tarmac inserts XDE-7880-M3 300/200 rate.

and this on the svp205cup for the legs K4-XRA-59470-H0

long top gravel inserts are XDE-7880-M2, 250/120 rate.

those short top inserts I have are 6 3/4" of exposed piston rod, 11 3/4" body length (just the 40mm o.d section)

looking at the format of the numbers above, I'd suggest your part number could be XDE 7880 M0, still not sure exactly what they are though

They are long top spindle if that helps, and I wouldn't have said they are very old as in very good condition hardly look used, the insert number is in the same position as yours Welshpug and that's definatly the only numbers on them. They are currently off the car so may get some more measurements tomorrow if that would help to ID them. As said they are similar numbers to the (bilstien coilovers) advertised on kam racing at £700 a pair so not overly top end. Any other info I can offer to help ID them.
