Xu9J4 Pre Purchase Inspection

Recommended Posts

Hi I am only new to the Peugeot 205 & particularly the 16V upgrade. I have struck a deal to purchase two XU9J4 engines (actually in Australia they will be XU9J4Z). One is from a BX16V and was supposedly working before the car went sideways into a tree (not front end). The other is from a Mi16 and was working fine until it broke a cam belt. I am treating this one as my spares and want to put the BX16V one in my 205.

I asked this question on my local forum and got one useful answer about the dizzy & button and one not so useful answer about an idiot hole (which I assume is in the same realm as a left handed screwdriver).

So I am reaching out to you guys to help with things to check before I buy these engines. The one with the broken cam belt obviously I won't be able to turn over due to the valves. The other I plan to try to turn by hand to check it isn't seized but a apart from that what else should I be checking for....?

Oh it also come with the wiring loom & ECU for the BX16 and a wiring loom that may or may not be finished that is from a Mi16 that has been integrated for a 205 and that ECU. It also has the hoses, mounts & air flow meters.

Is there anything else that I should be checking particularly rare or difficult items to source that sometime go astray from the engine....

Cheers

Rowan
