205 Cti Dimma Restoration

Recommended Posts

james_pug

Thought I'd start up a thread for the rebuild of my dimma 205 cti. Dimma UK only built 8 of the cti's and there's only about 3 others left now and they don't get used much. I bought this in August 2014 it a was in a right state and has needed a lot of small patches all the way around it.

Its taken a long time to get it to paint 2 months after buying it I broke my wrist then it took me a while to get back into work g on it and it was January by the time I started working on it again and had it ready for paint by June but then got let down by the person who was meant to paint it and had to find someone else to paint it.

Here it is as I picked it up, it came with loads and loads of parts so I had to rent a van to fit it all in, it was also 5 hours away and had no suspension or hubs fitted so I had to take tools and parts to get it moving.

^ once home with the rest of my 205s!
Initially it didn't look to bad but the engine was seized, the side skirts had been cut off to repair rot on the sills and one section of sill had been cut out, the sills on a cti are complete different shape to the hard tops and you can't get them new I eventually ended up buying a complete running but rotten cti to use for the sill and I will end up using the engine and various other parts.

These are just a few of the areas that needed welding I don't seem to have many decent photos.
Once the welding was done I treated all of the floor pans on the inside and painted them with epoxy mastic, I also painted the underside with epoxy mastic then stonechipped it all after grinding off all the damaged factory under seal.

After this I stripped everything off the shell that I could to leave it as a bare rolling shell and it finally went for paint on the 21st of August.

Soon after buying the car I messaged terry who use to build these to see if he knew the car and he sent me a photo of how it looked when it was first built, I knew then that I wanted to get it back close to the original colour and i managed to find some of the original colour on the front bumper under the black and then yellow paint that it had been since.

Here is the original picture and then the pictures of it painted.

Great progress. Its interesting to see the stripped interior to see just how much bigger the sills are. I'm glad to see if going back to that colour too, it looks really nice.

It's Sherwood Green isn't it? That was a 306 phase 2 / 406 colour, so I guess from the mid to late 1990's and a bit after Atlantic Blue. Do you know when it was actually Dimma'd? Looks great though :)

Yep sherwood green as on the 406s it's a close match to the original green that was left on the front bumper, it can't be far off goodwood pine green, eventually I'll do the 1.9 dimma wheels with anthracite centres and polished lips like the goodwood wheels and put chrome strips in the bumpers as I don't think the red goes with the green. According to the plaque it was Converted in 89 so would of been brand new.

I am terrible at taking pictures while I work and at updating project threads, here's some of what I've been doing I got quite a lot done over Christmas.

I have fitted a mohair roof and all the glass except the front door Windows also most Windows seals are fitted I just need to find some good scraper seals which are hard to come by for ctis as the shrink badly

I have got the complete wiring loom out of my donor car and fitted along with the sound deadening under the carpet this usually Is very damp and crumbled in most 205s it wasn't to bad in the donor car so I used some flash banding roofing stuff to heat up and apply to the top of the sound deadening to keep it together.

I got the engine pulled out of the donor and into the garage where I gave it s good clean up along with a new cambelt, water pump, clutch and replaced the sump as the original was very rusty. Once I had got all the brackets that needed to go into the engine bay I got the brake lines in the engine bay done and got the engine in.

Pas hose arrived from miles in the week so I had a couple of hours to get it fitted and start fitting bits in to the engine bay.

Few more jobs done, after picking up some steel fuel line from Peugeot I got the fuel lines run and connected up in the engine bay at the same time I ran the rear brake lines under the car and above the tank then got the tank on and all connected up. Then I've turned to the interior and getting electrics working again for the first time in many many years I got all the looms joined up and chucked a battery on and it seems like everything should work ???? won't be long before it will run.

Thinking of using these wheels ;)

Front window regulators are now fitted so all glass is now in along with the electric Windows working. Had a problem with the fuse for the central locking, radio and interior light blowing it turned out I had plugged the switch for the glovebox light into the fuse board rather than the switch, so now all the wiring is fitted correctly and working I've now got the glovebox and some of the dash refitted I've fitted a toad alarm aswell.
I've also got my donor cti nearly ready to go to scrap everything I might need is now removed from it so that can go to scrap and I can get my old cj back which I will be using all the suspension from, it's got brand new gas coilovers Motaquip 1.9 wishbones , gti6 front brakes and rear discs all with new discs and pads so will be nice and quick to bolt up to the dimma.

I'm not normally much of a fan of Dimma's, but it really does suit the cab in that shade of green :)

Agreed-never been 100% sure of dimmas-but looks really smart in that colour, and in my opinion younger-certainly the styling looks newer than my standard graphite grey does

Well done that man
