Vacuum Sunroof Doesn't Work [Help]

Recommended Posts

idoari

Hi,

i'm in a process of restoring my 1992 1.6 gti and i overhaul the sunroof completly.
the problem is that the sunroof doesn't have vacuum to compress the rubber seal. i don't know what the problem is.

i have a new vacuum rubber seal, i glued back the broken nozzle from the vaccum tank (under the gatter trim).

here is the setup:

post-25617-0-89763000-1440103926_thumb.jpg

the vacuum comes from one of the nozzles under the throttle body and get into the "T spliter" on side goes to the vaccuum tank and one to the sunroof opening valve (in the handle) - i don't have the valve (mark as 21) in-between . i also modified the cable puller (mark as 20) because i didn't got it with the car [maybe it's too long and it's not openning the handle valve enough ?]

what do you think the problem ?

thanks

Ido

I had a kink or squashed piece of vacuum pipe under the carpet close to where the pipe comes through the bulkhead , I just straightened it out and it worked ok .

There is a one way valve which allows the vacuum to build up and store in the reservoir ,this could be in the wrong place or direction .

I'm not familiar with that diagram, but would expect the one way valve to be before the tee piece so that the vacuum is stored in the reservoir.

On my 1.9 the vacuum line is from the servo, then the one way valve, then the tee piece.

hope this helps

Mr Teflon

Apologies for the thread revival.

If you've come to this thread looking for help routing vac pipes for the sunroof then the parts diagram above is misleading and seems to picture the non return valve in the wrong place. I was scratching my head looking at that image thinking 'how can the non return valve be of any use positioned there?' - and of course, it's not.

The correct routing is;

Pipe from inlet manifold to black end of non return valve.

Blue end to the t piece

One side of the t takes the pipe off to into the chassis up to the sunroof.

The other takes a pipe into the scuttle and across to the vacuum reservoir.

Hope this helps someone else out there!
