Base Model To Gti Suspension

Recommended Posts

MKrisz92

Hey there!

Before the start of a bigger project, I'd like some advice. I would like to change the base model suspension to a gti one, while keeping the 1.4 engine.

What exactly do I need from the gti donor and what do I have to keep from my current one? I've got a 1.9 beam, gti subframe, shocks, springs, top mounts, brakes. What else do I need on the front?

I'd like to improve the handling first, then get the bigger engine in next year.

Regards,

Chris

Are the base model hubs and shafts the only things I have to keep, or is there anything else?

I mean are the subframe/wishbone/droplinks the only ones I need (and of course the brakes, shocks, springs, top mounts) for the swap? At the front.

You can keep your current brakes, but given you are upgrading everything else it makes sense to change them.

Base models have a rubber bush type mount between the subframe and the body (GTi's seemed to be solidly mounted) so worth changing these. Unfortunately I don't think you can mount the subframe straight to the body like the GTi's as the hole for the rubber mount is different in the shell. 309's used a solid version of this rubber mount, but this seems to be NFP from Peugeot.
