1.9Gti Automatic Engine

Recommended Posts

Telf

Hi all,

I've been trying to get a 8V 1.9 engine to strip and rebuild with a view to replacing mine at some point. A friend of mine says he knows a guy who has a 1.9 engine complete that came out an automatic.

Does anybody know what engine this would be D6B etc?

I have done a search but haven't found anything that helps!

Thanks

Paul

afaik itll be a 105 bhp dfz

if it is, and the block pistons and liners are good then you can drop a gti head on which will give a nice bump in compression ratio

Oh ok I hadn't really thought of that I was just thinking find another D6B like mine, I ws under the impression that the power output of the dfz was much less - but I'm fairly ignorant of what swapping and changing heads can achieve.

Ultimately I'm trying to keep my car as near to original spec as possible.

The difference in compression and power is due to the head.

so provided the bottom is ok - and I refurb the head on mine it should be ok?

A DFZ and D6B bottom end aren't the same.

I've not done the sums, but I'm pretty sure a D6B head on a DFZ bottom end will have too much compression for a standard dizzy, assuming you're wanting to replace an otherwise standard but tired D6B engine.

Not all Auto's use the 105 engine, Like mine has the GTi spec engine so it's worth checking, but if you want to keep original then matching numbers help value allot
