When Ive had big arbs from torsion for performance I have the larger 306 splines machined on rather than the 205/309 ones ;)

Did they snap Henry?

 

 

If I ever get mine finished I need to get a 28mm arb and was looking at torsion performance.

 

I'm satisfied the bars will be fine... what happened to your rear ARB's?

Thanks for info, but wish to keep the axle 205 in origin, if that means buying the ARB from PTS or Spoox then so be it...

it still will be 205 origin, just a stronger larger ends to the ARB so they're less likely to break off!

Yes, just use 306 end plates and thin rubber bush. Direct fit.

the arms and shafts are identical bar minor differences in geometry and stub axles and a small bracket here or there, as tom said, due to the larger diameter ends ont he ARB there's just a thinner bush.

, I'm not a mechanical engineer so I don't fully understand why there is a requirement to heat treat torsion bars?

 

I do though understand the price difference between £220.00 bars and £375.00 bars, I need your mechanical advice/knowledge, thanks!

 

Hardening and tempering increases the strength of the material. The bar will be able to be stressed more and return to its original shape. In engineering speak, it's desirable to keep the part in its elastic range. Past this, it goes into the plastic (failed) range. Think of a coil spring which doesn't return to it's original height when the load is released. I've had direct experience with 21mm untreated bars. You can drive around town and they'll keep their original ride height. Take them on a rally however, where loads are higher and the bars will go plastic and the ride height sags.

splines failed on one, snapped the other two at the ends.

 

as peter eludes to all seems fine and dandy until you do some motorsport and then things start to break.

 

The bars I have now were supplied by 309PUG off this forum. I think he used to supply peugeot sport. The quality is top notch, I have a 25mm and 28mm rear bar with 205 size splines and no issues so far.

Ordered today... as said above, buy cheap, buy twice, motorsport is dangerous enough without failed/inferior parts, f*** that!

Thanks Petert for the explanation... it's like tempering chocolate or clarifying butter, there is a prefectly good reason for it.
