Non Sunroof Models

Recommended Posts

I've always had 205 GTi's with a sunroof, but I've seen three recently without. My 309 is a non sunroof model just wondered if 205's are rarer without?

Cheers

There are definitely more 205's with sunroofs, but i wouldn't say a non sunroof car is rare, just less of them.

I would guess it would be a ratio of about 90%/10% for sunroof/no sunroof on 205/309 GTI's ( maybe 85%/15% ) , lesser models would probably have less sunroofs .Would be interesting to see how many would select a sunroof off the options list if they were choosing the spec of the car they now own - I would say very few .

Don't think I recall ever seeing a phase2 309 gti without a sunroof.

I would always have a car with a sunroof. I like the big vaccum sunroofs, they make a gti a very nice summer car.

Early 205 GTIs came without sunroofs and it was a £250 or so optional extra but many people opted for them apparently. Many have dealer fit sunroofs as they were more than likely far cheaper.

On the run-out years from 92 onwards the 205 GTI sunroof was a delete option so late cars without sunroof are far rarer as most people wanted cars with them.

I suspect late 309 GTIs wilthout sunroofs will have been sunroof delete options too.

In the mid 80s a sunroof was THE thing to have, so it was likely to be the first thing buyers picked on the option sheet, or the first thing a salesman threw in extra to help sell a car.

They wouldn't be so bad if they were a bit more discreet but given it's an 80/early 90's car you can't moan too much

I dislike the 205 sunroof purely because of it's appearance

My M3 though, you forget it even has one and it's so streamlined / thin, so it still looks good
