Rear Bumper Mounting Question

Recommended Posts

Quick one hopefully.. I'm just offering my rear bumpers back up to the shell to make sure everything's in place for refitting them. What you're looking at here should be self explanatory but it's from within the arch, facing backwards, with the bumper loosely in place and a bolt through it. My shell has just the rubber buffer/bung pressed into the mounting plate and that's all. It looks to have a metal washer built onto the face of it?

Looking at the parts diagram and numerous photos of fixing kits on eBay, it looks like I'm missing the "bumper fixing spacer" (Part no 742626) which looks like a spacer to just support the bolt as it goes through the rubber buffer.

But when I Google the part number, it looks like the diagram is wrong and the washer/fixing spacer is all one thing now and that's all I need?

Main reason for asking is that the bumper looks like it needs to go up about 10-15mm to meet the lines of the body underneath the rear lights, but there's no adjustment anywhere, is there?! Unless the washer / spacer is offset and you can rotate it to bring the bolt up?

I assume it's just this new 742626 part I need, that sits inside the rubber bit already visible, and then a nut over the end of the bolt and that's it?

I've got boxes and boxes of snapped / rusty bolts and whatnot that I've kept purely so I don't forget anything but can't see any spacers or the like.

Furthermore, does the amount of thread poking through the rubber buffer look sufficient enough to accomodate whatever else I'm missing? (It's not the standard Peugeot bolt, and I'm hoping the answer is yes)

there is some movement on the rear brackets, parts 2 and 3 on the diagram, there is a gap under the lamps though, if you look form the side just align the bumper with the line of the rear quarter.

I did look at that, but it just makes it look sloped!

Guess it's just an old french bodylines thing...

Does my setup look right then - just need that one 742626 bit per side and sbhould be fine? Plus a washer/nut on the end of the thread obviously

There's a bit of wiggle room on the three large black brackets, it all straightens up when done up tightly.

The 742626 is not really as the parts picture shows. Its a pressed top hat thing. From your photo it looks like it is there already inside the rubber. Its purpose is to stop you totally squashing the rubber bush by tightening the nut/bolt.

As you say theres a large penny washer then a nut on the back.
