Should I Tell Vw To Ram Their Car?

Recommended Posts

mowflow

Ordered one of those cheap Golf R lease deals back in October and was told delivery end of February. That came and went and was told March, that then moved to end of March. Now that's been moved to "sometime in April".

I do have another car that should last until this one arrives but they are really pissing me off. I haven't signed anything yet (they can't get me in an agreement until the car is in shipping apparently).

What would you do?

Sit and wait (feels like bending over and just taking it)

or

Go get something else and look forward to the satisfaction of telling them "Sorry, got bored and bought something else" when they finally call to say "your car has arrived".

6 months is a bloody joke for a Golf.

Sit and wait then sell it for a profit on the used market straight away!

I think they surprised themselves with the uptake of these due to the lease prices.

I guess the other alternative is an M135i but I'm not sure on the price difference.

I would be annoyed at the dates changing and agree it would be satisfying to say no at the last minute.

I guess it just depends how much you want the car and if you are prepared to wait for another

Nothing worse than a back-order when you are wanting something

I'd go and buy a Leon Cupra, same car without the Haldex rear end, so a good bit lighter I'd imagine.

or go S3, or 135i.

If i lumped it the lease option for the same price would be limited to a Fiesta ST3 or similar. There is a lot of tempting used stuff for sub £15k that I could go for.

Unfortunately everything from the VAG stable seems to suffer from their ridiculous lead times so a Seat or Audi wouldn't be any better. The Seat would be my choice over the R but despite being cheaper to buy it's more than twice as much to rent one. Ditto on the S3, even an S1 costs almost double what the golf costs on a rental. I've already had an M135i. I would do another (now the facelift is out) if the price was right. My last one was factory built and delivered in 6 weeks. BMW could teach VW a thing or 2.

To be honest, it sounds like you've already answered your own question if you can't get even half as good a lease deal elsewhere.

Wait for it I've got a 2014 s3, essentially same car as you probably know, trust me you'll love it.

Make a complaint to someone at vw, you might get something off or at least a reason or apology. Worth a try? Make up some reason why it hasinconvenienced you

A friend of mine has had one of these on order for 6 months or so. Didn't sound like a bad deal.

I collect his old car this morning as he's been given a 'final' build date of 2 weeks time so he is happy to go without a vehicle briefly. If they move the date again I can't imagine he will be best pleased.

I've never leased a car, but the Golf R deals were amazing value for a brief time when compared to purchasing the same thing...lease cost significantly lower than the likely depreciation. A lot of people failed to get the deals at around £250/mth. If it's the car you want, I'd hang on. Wouldn't be my choice if buying outright at approx £35k (for a similar budget I went for a used car) but the Golf is a quick and competent car....I like them and you probably won't do better for your monthly outlay, if it's a new car lease you want.

Edited to add: I think these were VW rather than dealer subsidised leases. I doubt they'll be too upset if they don't have to honour them.
