8V Oil Level

Recommended Posts

I feel like this is a stupid question and that I'm missing something obvious but....do the crank/big end caps touch oil in the sump as it's spinning?

I'm just putting my 8v back together and the dipstick markings look like the oil in the sump will be caught on each rotation...is that right?

I know it must be because it's the right dipstick and tube, but I have a little doubting voice in the back of my mind!

Remember that the engine sits at a 30 degree angle when in the engine bay, so the dipstick will be lower compared to the crank.

Plus as soon as its running, some of the volume of oil is no longer in the sump, its up and around the engine galleries.
