Non Starting Cti

Hi, I have a 1988 CTI. It has been in storage for 1 year. When I put the battery back in,charged, the starter won't turn. There is a whirring sound but no starter action.. Any ideas???? Thanks.

Sounds like the battery isn't that good.

Hi, Even with a jump start from a running car the result is the same. The noise on turning the key is a humming sort of noise and doesn't stop until the key is removed.

Wobble the ignition key as you turn it , there can be a bad contact internally . Check the earth wiring from battery to engine block and from live terminal to bolt on starter motor . Then check the wire from the loom to the spade terminal or bolt on the starter , its hard to see as its all tucked under the inlet manifold but these can come loose or corrode .

Could be a faulty starter of course if these wiring checks do not work .
