Cooling Fan Resistor 3 Pin/plug Is 2 Pin?

Recommended Posts

ATK

Went to fit my new cooling fan resistor (metal tube to allow slow speed rad fan), new part with three pins.

Little brown plug to plug it into has three holes in the plug but only two wires/connectors linked up - is this right? if so how do i know which way around to put the resistor?

Also I have a clip (toolclip 18mm) to mount it - where is it meant yo be mounted as I cant see any suitable holes to put the clip on the top of the rad?

cheers!

You can plug the resistor in either way round, it doesn't matter.

Doesn't need holes, just clips over the top lip.

When I took my front bumper off it was clipped to the front panel under the headlight with a very rusty original looking clip. I assumed it was original but maybe not.

No it wasn't, that would have been the dim dip resistor.

Ahh ok. that's the only resistor I have. I must be missing this one. Where is the wiring for it, I haven't come across anything bridged. I have (did have) high speed fans. Il Need to find out further info on this treasure.

Wiring for fan resistor is on same self contained loom as blue plug for rad fan switch.

The dimdip resistor is hard to see on mine but was plugged in far below nearside headlamp.

dimdip has wires coming out of it and then a plug, whereas the fan resistor has a socket only which the loom plug goes into.

I think!

Thats the dim dip resistor clip that's on the front panel they welshpug said about.

Where did you buy it from ATK? Is it OE only? Thanks for the info. Il route about before the rad and slam panel goes back in fully.

Il take your current clip off your hands if it's of no use to you.

I cut the plugs off mine and replaced them with expensive Ip68 ones. Trouble is I may have mixed them up as my fan is constantly running for 20 mins after a run. I noticed that they have different numbers e8 d8 IIRC. I've swapped them over and the fan went off. But haven't run the engine yet to see if the fan clicks in. Are the resistors different or is mine bust? Also I remember the resistor for the fan is to give two stage fan speeds. But what's the headlight one do?

headlight one is for dip/dim and goes here (needs fitting properly)

and has three wires onto a brown plug (not as shown above) the fan resistor has the brown plug at the end of the resistor and no flying leads

Ahhh.

Do all fan resistors not have the fly leads across the range of 205 phase options?

It's certainly an easy way to identify the resistor, but doesn't explain why the numbers are different stamped on the end or the two with fly leads on mine though?.

Looks like my cti didnt come with a fan resistor and had a dip dim in its place.

Got the dip dim working as it should, Looks like the other resistor is blown.

it must have an higher resistance for the fan as it was comming in at full speed when only warm with the working resistor.

I've put a wanted advert up for a fan resistor.
