All Lights Dimming With Indicators And Brake Lights

brake lights and indicators affect all other lights and fuel gauge, makes them dim or flash. Cleaned and checked all the earths and bulb holders, any ideas what else to try?

Also mot came back "brake lights adversely affected by other lamps"

Electrics ain't my strong point!

Which earth points did you check?

 

I would additionally check the charging rate of the alternator, it may just be highlighting low voltage when you place additional load on the system.

Checked the one behind tail light, two on the battery negative lead and behind headlights, how do I go about checking charging rate?

There are earths on the steering column too, as well as to the chassis and one to the body either behind the washer bottle or onto the ignition coil plate.

 

check the charging rate with a multimeter on 20v setting across the battery, check with engine off, then start engine without revving, then monitor voltave as you increase revs and add load.

 

a good alternator will be pushing high 13's to low 14's, stabilising without too much dropping when load is added.
