Audiobull's 1.9 8V Rebuild

Recommended Posts

Pic heavy so if you have dial up may i suggest you order broadband ;-)

Well i am making a head start here. Ive not even got a 205 yet.... It was £50 and only around the corner so thought i may aswell keep myself busy while i look around for a 205. Got it home at 12pm today and got to work.

1st up what engine code is it as i cannot see anything that says tu or xu anywhere.

It was in 2 but the head looks in good shape and the block moves freely. what do you think of the shells do they need replaceing?

Going to look at sending it away to be cleaned, port and polished? any recommendations and would they be able to put it back together with new valves etc?

Is there meant to be an alloy, what seems to be a spacer between the block and the sump?

Nice start you've made, with the spacer on the sump it'll be a 1.9 XU engine :) How big are the inlet and exhaust valves?

Check the tag by the rh engine mount casting.

thankyou. what bit should i measure on the valves, the valves themselves or the head.

there is 2 tags. one has loads maybe serial number other says ptc and i think DKZ hence the confusion. i thought it would have xu or tu somewhere on it.

DKZ is the engine code, 122 bhp Motronic engine, aka XU9JAZ.

slightly lower compression and shorter duration cam than the 128 bhp XU9JA Jetronic engine, same cylinder head.

Also, you can tell its post 15 Jan 92 as it has the later water pump and timing belt tensioner.

however those liners look shot, they shouldn't be that shiny, nor is rust at the top of the bore any help.

thankyou welshpug very useful. I will more then likely rebuild it and keep it for a spare rather then chuck hundreds at it. I think now you have said that i should be waiting to get a 205 to see what engine is in that, will still get it cleaned and back together with new bits.

Not from the engine serial number, look at the other tag next to it.

There may be a means from the serial but i dont know it, whereas the code is on the black and silver plate.

Right, so the engine prefix will precede it... will do, thanks.

Cant tell for sure, but did you also blast the bearing seats? If so, then i think you got a problem there.

whys that? Can i just add that this was not sand blasted so it is not abrasive. This engine will not be going in a car anyways ;-) I have another plan for it now as it is apparently the slower engine and may not even fit the 205 i end up getting without work.
