Fitting Spot Lights / Valance To A Car That Came Without (Help Please&

Recommended Posts

EarthMummy

Hi everyone... need some help... pretty please!

My 1.8 Diesel (XUD7) on an H reg plate is a ''style''. It's got the typical yellow pin stripe around the car etc.

I'm adding a front valance with spot lights / fog lights / driving lights, what ever you wish to call them!

I know there's two ways of doing this: Could wire them into the main beam so they're only powered with main beam OR I could try and get the fog switch and a loom off a factory fitted fog light as standard and have them controlled via a switch...

Being honest, I think I prefer the latter option but I've no idea IF I will ever find the correct wiring loom and if I do the wiring it into a switch in the dash with correct earth / relay points may be a complete tit ache!

So, advice people!

I'm not that great with electrics I'll be honest, I've done minor adjustments to my road car (406), seat belt pretens needed re-connecting due to lose wire, so I did a crimp on spade connector to join those wires.

The easier option will be the best for me... I've had a brief look at the wiring diagram in the back of the haynes manual and just want some more advice pretty please!

I would check if it has the driving lamp wiring firstly, it may be there already, if not, add a relay triggered from the main beam wiring with a fused power supply.

that will be pretty easy either way, far easier than adding a switch.

there is a specific name for each type of lamp as they cast a quite different beam pattern for very different purposes, there are C&U regs to follow IIRC with the wiring and setup.

Iin essence if you have a fog lens it needs to be on a switch and a relay which can only be triggered when the dip beam is on, driving lamps can be purely switched by the main beam.
