Head wants a skim whilst off, pitting isn't where the fire ring sits so won't cause a problem. Old gaskets always look much like that when they come off.

i am impressed considering its 28 years old, thought it was going to be knackered.

it did not smoke before the head came off, would it pay to get the valve stem seals changed whilst the head is off?

or just get the head skimmed?

do it all while its off, else you will need to do it later with more expense eg set of head bolts, gasket ,time etc

Pitting in head could be filled in with weld prior to skimming, could get the machine shop to do it

Do the seals whilst its off, clean the valves etc. See my thread ' valve guide advice' that's ongoing as theres good advice about checking the valve clearances etc

I would not try to fill the pitting in the head - if it fell out it could block something important. Most of the pitting will come out with a skim and the pitted areas are not functional.

I was told by the engineering company I used said this one was no good.

doesn't look that deep, these heads can take a fair skim for ally ones.

I purchased another from Anthony on here.

0.003 skimmed off and all is good.

Can be welded up without any issues at all, But as normal the cost soon add up as you may as well do the lot with valves cleaned and reground in, Shims etc

well the head has been sent off to be tig welded, there was some depth to the corrosion and to play it safe i'm having the work done, skimmed and valve stem seal replaced. so all in all a good day, with all this will cost me £195 which to me for a 28 year old head not bad at all
