Moving Steering Rack Off Centre

Recommended Posts

pugpete1108

Not a 205 one but an mx5 one fitted to my rx8.

Rack overall is only 10mm either side too short but I've had to move it 100mm towards the drivers side to fit to the steering column.

Will it affect the steering running it with unequal length tie rods? (one side shortened one side lengthened) or is it best to change the column and mount the rack central instead?

Cheers

Yes it will be awful. Mount it centrally to the car and alter the column to suit.

I thought so tom, cheers.

I know welding of tie rods is a nono for the mot man but is it ok to sleeve and weld the lower column? As that's the only real alternative.

I cannot see an MOT man checking the lower column

So long as there is no play then all should be fine
