Bump Stops

Recommended Posts

claypole1360

Hi all,

do the rear bumpstops screw in or are they an interference fit?

I only ask because I don't have the car with me and I want to buy some,

thanks, Calvin.

Metal cup bolts up, then the rubber is retained in the cup with an outwardly tapered section at the base.

Thanks Tom for the prompt reponse, does that mean you buy a bump stop and with the cup or without?

Do you know if you can buy just the cups?

No it comes as a "kit" with cup, bolt, and rubber.

I have looked at making the cups in stainless but to be honest it doesn't really seem worth the effort whilst the original parts are still readily available.

Shame. I have 2 new powerflex bumpstops to go on and no cups (none on car when I got it).

theres plenty on scrapyards... and look for base model 205's as the bumstops (and therefore the mounging cups) won't have had lots of bumps to stop ;)

I would counterbore the power flex bush and then just bolt them on directly.

The cups are the same on 306 and Xsara's too, of which are plentiful in scrappies and typically not corroded to the point of falling off like most 205/309 ones are these days.

If the bumpstops have been missing for any length of time then you might have a fun just removing the remains of the M8 bolt that attaches the cup to the car - they're usually just a deformed lump of rust that's usually seized in place for good measure, just poor access to drill it with the beam in place.

I ground off the remains of mine and welded the new cups in place then gave them 3 coats of epoxy mastic. Should last longer than the rest of the car now.

I would rather have bolted them on as per the factory but my attempt at drilling the bolt out didn't go well.

Mine I think were completely removed for weight saving (it was a hill climb car).

I'll go shopping at the scrappies. Good to know the xsara and 306.
