Coil Differences

Recommended Posts

p1234

While giving my 1.6 stockhatch an end of season re build i changed almost every mechanical part. When I re fitted the engine it wouldn't start. Had spark and fuel. Turned out the new coil while sending spark it must have been in the wrong order or something as when I changed it back to the old one it fired up first time. I'm presuming I was supplied with the wrong coil or was it faulty?

Its tthe phase 1 'coke can' type coil.

err, given its a distributor, the coil fires for every rev, there's only one coil, so if you had spark but it was going to the wrong place it logically would have been the leads on wrong.

After the engine wouldnt fire we changed - dizzy, dizzy cap, leads, plugs, injectors, injector wiring, fuel, fuel reg, fuel rail, fuel, fuses, sensors, 2 ecu's, all checked separately with absolutely no change. (brand new engine so wasn't timing/compression) It was 1.30 am at that stage and we decided to try the coil as it was the only part we hadn't changed, it fired up straight away.
