13" Steel Wheel Oddity

Recommended Posts

How strange. I've swapped a couple of the rims on the pikey-spec 1.1 over for some I bought a few months back, much tidier and with better tyres. They look as similar as a manky white-and-rust rim and a shiny refurbed silver-painted rim can do - but the wheel trims just don't fit.

They're this style...

It really feels as if the inner profile of the actual rim is smaller in diameter - the trim just will not sit inside it. Anybody come across this before? Is it me? Or are there a couple of subtly different 13" steel rim types about?

Hiho. The trims are a bit scuffed and scruffy anyway (and I've cracked one trying to "persuade" it), but not as manky as the bare rims look. Anybody got a set of fairly tidy 13" trims going begging, cheap?

cheap black spray paint from motor factors, of a tin of hammerite and a brush :)

i guess it depends on the width/depth of the wheels maybe??

...and we have a winner...

Half of 'em are marked ET28, half ET35. Looks like the 35s are a half inch narrower, too... <sigh>

And, in other news, I seem to have three directional winter tyres for the LH side and one for the RH side. I'm going back to bed now.
