Toyo 888 Any Good For Road Driving

Recommended Posts

shooter mcgavin

I have a brand new set of toyo 888's I bought a while back and now that my project build has had a lot more detail put into it than I planed I won't be tracking this car.

I can't see me getting these up to a decent temp on the road so my question is do I sell them and buy some good road tyres instead?

I've always got on with the toyo proxies in the past.

What's everyone's thoughts

I had no issues with using them on the road.

If you got them use them up.

Depends on the weather, I'd get some good road tyres especially in the wet

i had a set on my old 306 gti6 and they were fine in all weathers. just got to take it easy if there is lots of standing water about. you won't want to go back to normal road tyres after.

I'm thinking the same miles, cars only out in the summer but it's always wet in glasgow :-(

Can't remember what I paid for these but seen a set with light use in the for sale for £300 plus postage

I found its only standing water they don't like much other than that there fine in the wet.

They offer plenty of grip on all but the wettest of days, but I found the side walls far too hard for British roads.

I'm running bilstein challenge spec dampers all round and the ride is terrible with them. Far too crashy to put up with for long.

much like their Yokohama equivalants... they're fine in the damp due to the soft compound rubber, but naturally they can't cope with standing water. Depends what you want... unrivalled grip but harsher ride then use them... compromised grip but comfort, then buy road tyres (Michelin, Pirelli, Bridgestone etc) The old A032R is the most superior road legal tyre I have ever used in any condition other than standing water... road tyres don't even come halfway close to them, just depends what you need or want.

In short and my experience no. For the weather we have even in Summer id never run them again. Awesome when warm on a track not so great on the road!

There much noisier that a typical road tyre. I use them all year around on my road legal track car. As said standing water isnt great for these tyres but I found wet grip to be equal or better than a decent road tyre.
