How To Remove Plastic Trim Panel From Tailgate?

Hi all,

 

Trying to remove the exterior plastic trim panel from the tailgate without breaking it.

 

I've removed the lock and the star washer from the plastic peg, but it's not moving and I don't want to force it.

 

Is there a technique to getting it off?

There are also clips on the rivets which are found under the name badges. Remove the badges and see if the clips are holding the trim on...

Aha! No badges are still on the panel.

 

Will try again tomorrow night.

I would say the clips will break on removal.

 

Usually well corroded.

from memory.

 

carefully remove the badge set with a large flat screwdriver/chisel.

 

prise/slide (what remains of your clips) clips R to L with a flat screwdriver.

 

tail gate moulding should then slip off.

 

(you can buy a 3M product/sticky tape; to re-bond your badge set when refitting.

Got the panel off safely, without breaking any clips!

 

Found an old credit card was the best tool for gently removing the Peugeot 205 GTI badges from the panel to reveal the clips. Large flat blade screwdriver to ease the spring clips (shown below) off, then gently prise off the star clip off the insdide of the tailgate. Panel then slide off easily to reveal a surprisingly clean tailgate underneath.
