Odd Starter Motor Problem?

Recommended Posts

jameswallace.

I have a gti 6 converted 205 and its starter motor is being temperamental. ..

Keeps deciding when it wants to turn over. One day it will be fine then an hour later it wont do anything. No noise or anything its just does nothing. I have power everywhere else.

Checked earths and connections and everything seems fine!

It also seems to fix itself if you leave it for a couple of hours it works later

ANy ideas??? Im so confused! It seems impossible

Could be a few things:

1) The starter motor itself

2) Voltage drop on the starter motor solenoid wiring

3) A failing alarm/immobiliser

The GTi-6 looms are typically far better than the original 205 ones, but a shoddy connection where the loom has been converted for use in a 205 could also cause an intermittent/bad connection.
