Gearbox And/or Clutch Issues

Recommended Posts

Rams_gti6

Just got home from a good day at blyton park sadly was cut few hours short due to struggling to get

gears. Second and third are the main problems but not all the time sometimes engage fine then won't go

in at all. The release bearing is rattling slightly but has done for ages not sure if this would cause this

problem as it's only happened really bad today. I've read that there's a pivot? Bush that can cause

problems with the linkage as I'm thinking when the engine moves that's what's causing the gears to

crunch or totally refuse to go in. I'm hoping it'd this rather than knackered synchros but either way can't

put up with it, slowing me down so much it's amazing how much engine braking is actually used!

There should be an L shaped linkage bolted to the subframe, it can sometimes come loose causing issue.

Thanks I'll have a look! Does the bolt just work loose or is there a bush between the bolt and the bracket?

I think it's a mi16 clutch with gti6 flywheel with be3 box does that combo sound right? The clutch cable adjusting bolts are seized but to be fair the pedal is about right but you'll know better than me so might swap it for a new one for sake of few quid. I did try adjusting it before as I was struggling to press the pedal right down messed with cable for ages then saw something dangling down and jamming in the clutch lever!

Just changed my gearbox on my car today and my car still won't let me have 2nd, 3rd or 4th. Any suggestions?

I used the one that was already fitted to my car? The short one or long one?

The noise it makes when trying to get in gear is like a whuring almost like trying to select reverse with clutch not pressed

No, after thinking about it and driving it I'm thinking the cable could have stretched?

What do you mean? If the cable is not disengaging the clutch properly it would stop it going in gear wouldn't it?

teehee

Do you have rose jointed/circlipped gear rods?

have you had a look to see if you've bent the bottom of the gearstick (the ball joint)

is it worse now than before?

where is your clutch bite point?

what clutch do you have?

did you check your clutch while the car was off?

Have standard rods, I haven't checked if I've bent the gearstick although no reason to believe I could have..

Clutch is a cbmotorsport uprated thing didn't realise this till I saw it today nor had I heard of them! It's the same as before pretty much I think and the bite point is half way maybe slightly lower to floor.

Ordered a new cable so we'll see. Thanks. Just spoke to pugracing, reckons gearbox is just as bad as one I've took out. Seems strange that it's behaving exactly the same as the old one surely it would be slightly different!

sounds like your clutch maybe a tad too thick failing that definitely clutch adjustment or somethings bending somewhere along the cable like a flimsy bracket
