hello to all....please help a 205 virgin.......I recently bought a white mk 1 cti 1.6 d reg 86 off flea bay.....all good bar the low /lumpy tickover issue..but I can live with that...but...I need a few very simple q,s answering asap...1. when looking at the engine from the front.. what is the firing order & cylinder layout of my 1.6 engine ie from cam belt end to the battery side..2 re the dizzy cap ..how should they be attatched ??..it wont start tickover..it coughs & splutters & stinks of petrol..it was running great no issues at all..then I serviced it..ie plugs ht leads dizzy cap ,rotar arm oil & filter & std air filter....then one of the h/t leads broke off. last week....i replaced that then it stalled..ran very lumpy ie like on 3 cylinders & kangarood..now it wont start...I took the dizzy cap off & noticed the rotar arm had put a nice great big gouge in it...so ..yesterday I replaced the dizzy cap & rotar arm..but mixed up the ht leads..it was 8 pm ..all these parts were bought at a local car factors..any members in Essex could pop over to harlow & have a look.??..im taking the bike to work ..& the wifes giving me grief because I cant pick the kids up from school etc..ive tried the Haynes manual no joy..& il try & change the coil tomorrow..any posts on here re correct dizzy cap pictures..i take it the coil slots in the middle hole?? many thanks a very confused cti owner... :(:(:(

aye. .cheers stewart.. you aint wrong....but any garages/pug experts in Essex /herts who can do the following ..1.SET THE TIMING..2.ADJUST ALL THE MIXTURES IE FUEL & AIR. WITHIN TOLERANCE...3 CHECK FOR ANY LEAKY PIPES IN THE ENGINE BAY..4.CHECK THE FOLLOWING..M.A.F. COOLENT SENSORS..COLD START SYSTEM..5...LASTLY STICK IT ON A ROLLING ROAD 7 SET UP FOR THE ROAD....IVE THE FOLLOWING ISSUES ..ON START UP/ COLD START..IT WONT START ON ITS OWN VIA THE KEY..I HAVE TO SIT IN IT & FEATHER THE THROTTLE FOR 2 MIN MIN..ITS CHOKEY & RUNNING RICH..THE EXHAUST BACK BOX IS SOOTY & FUEL ODOURS ARE PRESENT....THE IDLE IS AT 1500 RPM WITH THE BRASS SCREW FULLY WOUND IN..WHEN IT GETS WARMISH IT THEN CUTS OUT..IE THE REVS DROP OFF..THEN U NEED TO TURN THE SCREW OUT TILL ITS SITTING /IDLING AT 1200 RPM..MOST OF MY JOURNEYS ARE SHORT TRIPS STOP START..IE WORK KIDS TO SCHOOL ETC ...SO HOW CAN I CHECK THE BASICS FIRST..IE THE COLD/PRE START FOR THE INJECTION SYSTEM THERE MUST BE A BUILT IN CHOKE SET UP TO KEEP THE CAR IDLING WHEN COLD THEN THE REVS DROP TO SAY 900 RPM WHEN OFF CHOKE..THIS IS MORE NEEDED NOW DUE TO MY LATE FINISHES & EARLY STARTS..SHORT TRIPS..

is your ENTER key broken and the CAPS LOCK on jimmy?!

aye. .cheers stewart.. you aint wrong....but any garages/pug experts in Essex /herts who can do the following ..

1. Set the timing..

2. Adjust all the mixtures ie fuel & air. within tolerance...

3 Check for any leaky pipes in the engine bay..

4. Check the following..m.a.f. coolant sensors..cold start system..

5...lastly stick it on a rolling road 7 set up for the road....

I've the following issues ..on start up/ cold start, it wont start on its own via the key, I have to sit in it & feather the throttle for 2 minutes minimum, seems to be running rich

The exhaust back box is sooty & fuel odours are present, the idle is at 1500 rpm with the brass screw fully wound in, when it gets warmish it then cuts out, i.e the revs drop off

Then you need to turn the screw out till its sitting /idling at 1200 rpm, most of my journeys are short trips stop start, ie work kids to school etc.

How do I check the basics first, i.e. the cold/pre start for the injection system, there must be a built in choke set up to keep the car idling when cold then the revs drop to say 900 rpm when off choke, this is more needed now due to my late finishes & early starts, short trips..

1, that is easy enough to do yourself, its two 11mm nuts, it has been covered a few times recently.

2. any MOT garage can do that for you.

3. you can do that.

4, it does not have a MAF, it is an AFM, it doesn't have a "cold start system" only a supplementary air device (S.A.D.) which leaks more air into the engine when its cold.

5, That's not particularly necessary, but would be the way to get it running 100%.

Track and Road in Rainham are well regarded.
