Water Injections

Recommended Posts

Guest BW205

Guys:

Just wondering is it possible to install a water injection system to a N/A 205 1.9 engine.

The reason I am wondering is here in Australia, the ambient temp is pretty hot and the fuel that we have here aren't all that great either!! So I was reading up on water injection systems.

Water injections sounds like a good idea especially the few who wants to mod their engines to a higher compression...

Can you guys shed some light on the subject please...as so far I still don't know whether it is worth it for a N/A engine

Cheers

Billy

I was under the impression that water injection is only of benefit if you're running nitrous, or big boost/high compression engines to stop pinking occurring. As when you comprress the fuel/air mixture the temperature rises, so the water aids to reduce the temperature of the inducted air/fuel.

Gar is right. Water injection is only usefull on highpressure aspirated engines.

so no real benefits for a N/A car running a high Comp Ratio??

I'm not too sure. I think it's only when you're running big boost/nitrous that the side effects of injecting water (lower bhp) are worth the advantage of reducing pre-ignition. Otherwise, the performance loss may render it pointless.

There are benefits to running water injection on high compression cars, but I doubt you will be running at compressions that high... Generally these cars are on special fuels anyway!

Have you looked at coatings for the valves/pistons to dissipate heat better?

A water methanol injection mix may be worth looking into but it probably won't be cheap if you do it properly!

There are a few books that cover all this... May be worth a read?
