Cleaning Breather Pipes

Recommended Posts

Is it worth taking off the whole lot including the one down to the sump to clean or just the ones that feed straight into the induction system?

cheers

Any that are gunged up or partially collapsed/kinked need sorting out. However a word of warning, if they are the originals then often they are basically knackered and will easily rip/fall to bits if you try to remove them.

So if in doubt either have another car to use, or order some nice new ones before you tackle the job!

I disturbed a load of them the other day to change the starter motor and they all had the original clamps on but none seems to spkit or break.

If i do damage them are they available new or can i just use hose off a reel.

cheers

How much cheaper are the peugeot ones?

£115 is a lot for breather hoses when you consider that the originals have lasted 25 years.

Ive never seen much of a point in sillicon kits for coolant either. My scirocco ones lasted 30 years till i replaced them last year and some of them were still useable, think I saved nearly £200

Will send you over all the hoses you need to replace oil breather wise, and tell you if they are available and price in a PM shortly.

I will say one gen hose is about £85 quid !

you have been very lucky if the originals have lasted that long, most have not even lasted 15-20 years, the only reason Silicone ones are made is that they are easier to make than Rubber items and are more durable.

As mentioned, one single breather is around £80, so £115 for the whole kit is very reasonable.

as for your VW, you cannot save £200 for the pug hose kit, as they don't even cost £200 to start with!! you have no choice with half the hoses, its silicone or nothing, they are not available.

The coolant hoses are just non existent.

I collected a few from old stock but even now in hindsight I should of bought off Baker (all the hoses) and been done with it.

Will send over the info any way and you can choose what you want to do

It is really surpising the lack of aftermarket availability there seems to be for the 205.

I have found a site selling various topran hoses but not sure which ones they are.

I'm not saying the sillicone kit isnt good value as sillicon kits go.

I guess I'll just have to be careful with the ones ive got and try and source cheaper alternatives if I need to.

Cant really afford to be spending much at the moment.

cheers

I changed all my hoses over to silicone BBM ones. Really worth it. Only downside was it was up on £335, but he will do you a deal.

One warning though is the pipe that runs from the top of the rad to the coolant bottle seems a bit short but does reach.

Also i had one hose left over and cannot fathom where it goes.
