Renault Trafic Abs / Speedo Fault

Recommended Posts

Hi all, bit of a long shot being a Renault but you guys are pretty clued up so here goes.

My van is a Reault Trafic on a 55 plate.

Over the last couple of months while driving I've noticed the speedo will drop to zero and the service light and stop warning lights will come on on the dash but will go out after a couple of seconds.

I've just replaced one of the cv joints as the thread on the hub nut had been previously cross threaded along the nut to loosen off allowing play in the hub.

Now the Abs light, brake warning light, stop light are permanently on and the speedo doesn't work.

Could the problem be the abs sensor on the hub I've been working on? I've pulled the sensor off and looks ok, also checked the connections which seem fine. There was a build up of rusty material on the abs ring which I have cleaned off, this has made no difference.

If it is the Abs sensor and I fit a new one will this make the lights go out or will it need to be reset at the dealers?

I do believe these use the ABS sensor for the speedo as well, you can test it yourself with a multimeter easily enough.

no need to go to a dealer, just a good independent with the appropriate diagnostic tools, may need to be a van specialist however as I'm not sure they are OBD II compliant.

with this specific vehicle I'm not sure if it'll clear with the fault repaired, however any other vehicle that I have fixed with similar faults have done so after a brief drive, a fault will still be logged in the ecu.

Give Paul Ross a ring, I've used him a couple of times he has got a multitude of Snap On readers and can read most things.

My vans always on its weight limit or a little over and I'm always in a rush, as mines the mk1 its only got 100 bhp so you've got to work it a little.
