Stop Light Turned On . Causes ?

Recommended Posts

omri617

Hi

I made a trip today , and noticed that the STOP light turned on . I had a look at the temp gauge and it was showing 90 . Had a look at the oil pressure gauge (which made me some troubles) and it was on the middle more or less.

What other things are related to the STOP can cause it?

Only two things should bring the STOP light on - low oil pressure, or high coolant temperature.

What other lights were on besides STOP, as the light shouldn't come on individually, only in conjunction with another light as above?

I swear it was only it , nothing else . It seemed strange to me too , I must say the Idle is playing up and down (but only between 7-9) so not that critical. temp was only 90 . oil was in the middle ...

Isn't that the pressure sender not the switch? That's the pressure gauge, which (as far as I know) has no control over the stop light. You want the oil pressure switch, which is amount 5cm to the right of the sender.

Anyone willing to confirm?

That switch (1131.14) is listed for the 205 GTI on servicebox.

Guys ,the light came up again . This time I had a close and careful look , temp gauge was 90 , fans both running . Oil gauge on the middle .

No difference in car's behavior or sound or anything . Continued driving even with the STOP on

Could It be sender which is making problems and not the switch ?

A; Oil temperature gauge not working?

B: Unless that oil pressure switch is broke then it's unlikely to be oil pressure because your sender is saying the pressure is fine (makes me worry about my oil pressure gauge because I'm never that high  )

C: The water temperature gauge is the one that is lit and therefore that is the issue. Looks like the needle is in the right area for that light to come on (maybe not as far as I'm used to, but it may be a bad photo).

I'd change the thermostat, it sounds like it's working but not well enough. The other thing you could do is start the car and leave it to idle. Sit outside and listen for the fan to come on (first stage == half speed) and check the temperature on the gauge. Then wait a bit longer for the fan to come on MORE (second stage == full speed) and check the temperature again. You may find that the fans aren't kicking in quick enough and that in combination with a bad thermostat?

Anyone care to confirm?

I suspect both to be honest

The fans kick at 70 both at full speed , they never work half speed in my car

Also , checked the coolant reservoir and it was empty !!!

God.. It never happened to me

Added almost a litre in there and bled the system

Can this be the cause ? If it ran with low coolant , how come the gauge didn't rise up to the 100+

?

Thanks

I think you need to be wondering why is the coolant tank empty!

Is there excessive mayo in the breather pipes?

My stop light come on the other day because the engine is too hot and the fan relay was buggered

The last time I added coolant was a year ago , really!

I check one a while and the level never is low.. there is first time for everything ..

No mayo anywhere ,just in the top of the oil filler , a bit..

The fans are related to coolant loss?

No, but you said the fans never do half speed, well this won't be good for heating issue.

Why ? Isn't the bigger the better? they work on full speed .. I live in a hot country , fans at low speed will take them forever to cool this old french.
