Check autodata, should be in there, I don't have it to hand at work.

Alternatively just ask the specialist that is doing the work for you, they should have the data to hand.

They were surprised there is a 205 GTi with air - con . I trust them on labor , only. When it comes to numbers and exact data , This forum is my guide.

Auto-data.net?

Actually I think that's wrong. Further down the table it says the 309 needs 900 grams, and the 205 should be the same as that.

It also says that the 309 takes R12 and that might be the difference?

Not clued up on the differences in the system though. Unless the condenser is larger.

The 205 and 309 both take R12. I think where it says 205 it means 206, because it shows the wrong compressor as well - it should be an SD508 the same as the 309.

Where it says 305/309 I think that should be 205/309

It's the same on all 205s and 309s.

When I told the air con man 900 he was surprised and said 'I don't think a small car like this could have 900'

Is R12 not banned since 1993 or thereabouts?....

It's not used in new cars since 1993. You can still buy it and use it.

I found another site. This one says 900 is correct. http://www.pikit.co.uk/peugeomt/air%20conditioning%20charge%20chart.html

Make sure he's filling it with R12 and not R134. 900 grams of R134 does sound high, but 900 grams of R12 seems about right to me.

Well , the air - con system had some changes in the past 20 years . I mean : few bits were replaced from other 205/405 over there.

How does this affect the R12/ R134 decision ? Is the gas type decided by the compressor? Dryer? Or what...

?

It depends what mix of components you've got. The compressor, drier, and the pressure switch screwed into the drier are all different between R12 and R134. If it's a mix of 205/405 parts then it's probably best to stick with R12.

Thing is , the connectors in the system are the 134a ones . so using R12 is no possible without making some changes in the system

I fitted a new fan for the air-con , and now i'm facing an issue :

The 2 fans kick in only when car temp reaches 80 (standard) .

When pushing the AC button , should at least 1 gets in action , even if the car is still cool?

Did you built the a/c system yourself from parts? You can use R134a in it as long as the oil in the compressor is compatible and you have the correct pressure switch on the drier (the one from a 306 or early 406 will fit).

I'm not sure exactly how the fans are wired on a/c models, but I think the two fans both come on at low speed if the a/c is switched on, regardless of engine temperature.

Yes I picked up some parts from scrapyards , can't remember which year was the 205 which i took the comp. from it.

I thank you for the replies.

Hi , Few days passed and the air con is oK ! I'm just having a problem with the RPM

When i push the AC button , Rpm go down to around 600 , and sometimes when shifting gears , the car shuts off - I assume there should be an rpm idler for the AC ?!

any help would be appreciated.

There is normally a solenoid on top of the throttle body to increase idle speed to compensate for the additional load of the AC.

Not the best photo in the world, but you can see the solenoid in this picture - 205 aircon throttle body
