High Millage Daily Drivers

Recommended Posts

hoban81

I noticed this morning on the way to work that my 205 1.9 gti was 10 miles short of 156,000 miles.

When I got home I had reached 156,015

Just wondering if anyone else is running high millage daily drivers.

I have just touched some wood, as I have work tomorrow.

Really makes me laugh when I read topics like this and then think about all the people who slag off old cars, and French cars, and say that 205s are flimsy and fall to bits and are unreliable.

It also makes me laugh when I see people on other forums (Alfa Owners for example) thinking cars that are (for example) 5 years old and 60k miles as "high mileage" and panicking that they have to trade their car in soon and get something newer and lower mileage because at 60k their's must be near the end of it's life

Think mine is on 159k, original engine, original box has been refreshed and just needs a set of planet gears and it'll be back in :D

Mum's 405 is on 318k.

At light deviation, but we service a 406 that an old boy churchy type uses to ferry old people round in. It's a V reg and clocked over 450!

He has pots of cash, just likes it so he keeps running it.

The pikey-spec 1.1 205's the sensible daily, and closing rapidly on 150k.

The VW camper's somewhere around 200k.

The 2cv's on about 140k.

My old Saab 900T16 must be way over 200k by now, and the new owner's recently taught his missus to drive in it...

All on original mechanicals etc.

Low mileage is for wusses...

Anything looked after well is fine, Abused then even at 100k then can be on their last legs, Most know the 306 GTi I used to use got to 285,000 before the HG went, I did think about complaining to Peugeot about it. I'll get around to fixing it sometime this year and start using it again, still made more power than car's allot newer and less than 3/4 of the milage on them

205 GTi with 295,000 KM on the clock .

25 years ago , Israeli army used Peugeot 205 as officers car . I know some cars reached 500,000 KM until they got rid of it to bring something newer.

My old 309 diesel was on 185,000 going strong. My Mum's old Terrano completly died at 110,000 :o - glow plug broke up and dropped into cyclinder!? 2004 Plate too.

all these comments are proving testament to the fact that peugeot designed these engines very well and if looked after properly can outlast just about anything lol

It was an advisory for oil leak - not a fail. I am aware of the leaking cam seal but since i'm changing to an mi16 in about 6 weeks i can't be bothered to sort it. Emissions was well under the limits.

EDIT - Note that i did have to sort a few things prior to the MOT, new droplinks/tie rods and rear discs and pads. Didn't just go through untouched.
