Fuel Pump Failure - Electricity Thing

Recommended Posts

omri617

Hello guys,

Got stuck on the side of the road - during a takeover car just shut down!

Checked spark , Checked air , all Ok .

Fuel pump didn't prime and eventually it was just didn't get 12 V.

Luckily had an extra long wire and wired the white wire on the fuel pump to the battery and Voila!

Pump came to life .

My questions are :

1.Hooked the wire i got from the battery , to the slot of fuse # 14 in the fusebox , and the fuel pump worked . In that moment it worked constantly which is not good cause it worked with ignition off you know..

2. Tychometer relay clicks with ignition , it means it's not dead , right ? wrong ?

What could be wrong?

fuses are O.K all.

Thanks

I would start at fuse 14, then Tachy relay, then continuity test the wires, then onto the pump.

My bet is the relay!!! I had everything working but the fuel side and it was the relay tried a new Durite relay worked perfectly ever since!

Can I get this relay from another car on a scrapyard? 205GTi is impossible to find there ,and Ebay will take 10 days to arrive.

Thanks

A few old BMW's Vauxhalls and porsches used them, possibly a few others.

or you could open it up and see if you can repair.

Correction :

When ignition is on , no voltage on fuse 14 , in any side . Far inside or the other slot

Now in process of checking the relay.

I ordered mine off the web (durite) cost about £30-35 delivered, works perfectly.

Only took a couple of days to turn up.

I live in Israel , normally packages take 7-12 days to arrive here ..
Anyway , opened the relay and that's what I found

Looks like the capacitor is fried ?!

UPDATE :

The problem is solved - there is a thick brown wire , goes into this plastic box that was released

Thanks , hope this will help users who will have this problem in the future.
