It's definitely trim related. Some of you are close......

Hopefully you're going to tell us you've taken moulds of the trim and have reproduced them to an exceptional quality for only pennies?!?

I wrapped vinyl on my 309 trims as getting good ones was tricky, adamB sorted me a load of chrome vinyl strips.

They're not vinyl wrapped. They're made of wood!

The trims on this car were wrecked. I mean properly mangled, dented, cracked, the door length is split in three places.

I was thinking about what I could use as an alternative and wondered if a piece of wooden profile from Wickes might do the trick.......

They're a little bit wider than the real thing, but to be honest once the whole side of the car is done you wouldn't know unless you really looked for it. The wood is just sanded a bit smoother than it already is, cut to shape, painted red and lacquered and stuck on with a few blobs of your favourite adhesive or sealant.

Here's a comparison against a spare piece of trim from another 205 before lacquering

Black20505.jpg

Total cost (I had the paint and lacquer already)........ £4 to do the whole car. It's not perfect, but then neither is the car!

Good work mate I had a topic up about this just a few days ago , some people will say there not OE so no , but if they can afford to spend £200 on a set of OE ones let them haha.

If it was a minter I'd spend the money on new original trim, but it's not, so I can't really justify the outlay.

The plastics had been sprayed black by a previous owner so I've keyed them and done them in dark grey bumper paint, although it's a bit paler than I'd like, it's a lot better than it was.

Yeah in that case i agree , but to find a minter you would need a bob or two anyway hence being able to afford OE parts

Bit of grain sealer will remove any sign of wood grain in the wood.

Or if you mix saw dust with cascamite powered glue, a solid filler, that will never rot!

Neat job on the trims :-)
