Motronic 5.2 Issues

Recommended Posts

205Mi16Mick

Hi All,

I have wired up the original mp5.2 into my 205 but the fuel pump won't go and the injectors wont fire. It runs ok on start ya bastard (aussie engine starter spray) so the ignition side of things seems to work. I am not getting any power out of pin 4 or 6 of the 15 pin relay and earthing ecm pin 3 doesn't make the relay click does that help diagnose the issue?

Anybody on here wired one of these up?

Thanks in anticipation.

Regards,

Michael

Check you have 12V on pins 2, 14, 11, 8 and 15 on the double relay with ignition on.

All except pin 2 which according to the book Peugeot and Citroen EMS shouldn't have it in some vehicles. I think I may be onto the problem now - it seems like the plug for the relay wasn't going fully in. The relay was clicking madly as I moved it so I pulled the clip system apart and put the relay straight into the connector and it ran for a few seconds! :) :) :) But then the battery died so I won't know how well the wiring works until tomorrow! :( At least I know the injectors are firing!

Thanks for your help. Would you believe that I spent hours on this to find the above out?

The relay plug was dodgy. And it needed power to pin 2 of the relay. :)

Now the current problem is that once started there is no way to kill it except by doing something radical like pulling the coil pack plug out. Is there a wire or pin on the ECU that takes a kill signal?

Regards,

Michael

Sounds like you've wired one of the switched ignition feeds as a constant 12v, or that you're backfeeding the ignition circuit somehow.

Double check your wiring, and see which pins on the relay are constant 12v (ie 12v with the ignition off) and which are switched 12v (ie 12v only with ignition on).

Thanks for the pointers. It's really wierd though because it keeps running with the battery removed. So I'm guessing that the alternator must be feeding the ECU etc. But I'm using the live loom that came with the motor.

You should have a switched live on one of the double relay pins.
