[Engine_Work] 205 Gti6 > 2.0 8V Turbo, Then Minor Resto/tidy

Recommended Posts

m_attt

Here's my 205 GTI6, has been a bit neglected over the past few years, I bought it as a run around and blew the engine up after a few months (timing belt jumped a tooth), It was laid up for a year until I put a new lump in and them my mother used it for a year.

Now I finally have it back, and currently tidying it up and refreshing it, before I swap the engine out with my 2.0 turbo from my other one with a rotten shell.

So far its had

Replaced the number plates with Old Style Font ones
New sidelight bulbs (LED)
New Headlight bulbs, Phillips x-treme vision
Replaced loads of trim clips to refit the arches and red strips
Yellow fog lights
Plasticare Trim dye'd the plastics so they are now permanently black again
new wiper blades

nothing exciting but made a massive difference, next will be a wheel refurb either white again or dark grey/silver.

crap pics, for now

Next will sand and repaint the engine bay, mock up where the intercooler and oil coolers will fit, then drop the turbo in. found a few other isssues that need sorting, like split cv boots and worn top mounts, so best time to get it sorted

de-rusted and primed the front panel today. will mock up a temp garege/spray booth with a gazebo and some tarps this week to get started on the engine bay. Oh baught a compressor aswell, so waiting on a new spray gun an air tools to turn up so can do it properly

Thanks, how come you chose the turbo over the 6'? Build looks good too!

(you left lots of goodies on that rotten shell :o )

I had both on the road at one point, and the turbo always was more fun. Faster, pulled harder. Guess i just prefer 8v's always have. The 6 just need to rev the hell out of it to keep it moving.

Most of the stuff left on that shell is rotten, been sat outside for 5 years. Beam was seized shocks were leaking panels left on the car were rotten or dented badly.

Ar fair play, just noticed the brakes and beam.

Have you got a link to the plates? I'm struggling to find a set!

That is a good little 205 you brought there, I remember when that was just a humble 1.6 gti, when rob brought that.

Next was rustproofing as it had a lot of surface rust on the old paint, I heard great things about POR15, so i thaught id give it a go, ordered it in Grey to use as a primer then would spray the bay red again to match the car. Unfortunatly i got a call from frost's saying they had no grey would black be ok, as i was on a time limit and the car was waiting to be painted i took the black, with a view to respraying at a later date when the shell gets done. Now its finished the black doesnt look to bad.
Thoose who havent used POR15 before, Its deffo worth the money took one coat, goes on nice and thick and has a nice glossy finish was very impressed with it. I used a brush and there are no marks, was even a cheapo brush.
