Speedo Drive Unit - Part Number

Recommended Posts

Obey_R

Good evening,

Ive had a look on ServiceBox but can't figure out which bit I'm looking at. I need to replace the drive unit in my gearbox as the speedo is tits and it's not the cable. If someone could advise which cog it is I need to change that would be brilliant. I've also heard its worth changing another cog whilst I'm there?

be1 and 3 are the same cogs.

can't remember offhand which cogs you need.

2643 04 19 DTS TACHOMETER CONTROL SCREW

2643 02 22DTS

2649 11 17 DTS TACHOMETER CONTROL PINION
2649 13 20 DTS

2649 18 21 DTS

2641 50 TACHOMETER CONTROL SUPPORT

its about a fiver for each bit.

edit, its 17t reg cog for a 1.6 gti, think 1.9 is the same, and I believe its a 19t white on the diff.

If it helps, my 1.9 BE3 from a 1992 J car was a Red gear.

Balls, yeah that does help because it could be either now! Not sure what year the box is from, it is a 1900 though. Guess I'll have to get the old one out first!

Oh what it should be the red cog, 2649 11 ?

So what is the control screw?

Its another cog that clips over where the long driveshaft goes into the housing, you have to pop the driveshaft seal out to pull it out, it drives the red cog and can break or slip causing no speedo or intermitent speedo

That's how it was on my 605 but looking on service box it looks like you might have to take off the speedo housing to get to it but its definitely a driveshaft out affair

Right then, thanks for that. So I'll be getting both cogs, 2643 04 and 2649 11.

Thanks for all the help guys.
