Doddle with some valve stem seal pliers, or you can modify some normal long nose.

Best way is to put the plier tips under the seal and gently lever against the edge of the head, protect the head with a rag or old piece of inner tube or similar, if you are trying the squeeze and pull technique it won't work, your basically just squeezing them harder on to the top of the valve guide.

Valves are out and yeah I found gripping them was counter productive.

Any pics of a set of modified pliers?

I presume this is on your rs head? I ground a groove on both sides of a pair of long nose pliers, a couple of mm back from the end. That way you're pulling at the seal from underneath, sort of hook under the ledge on them and don't squeeze to hard. When you get the nack of it you can even get them off without damaging them. I learnt that when I forgot to fit the valve seat washer/shims and had to pull all the twats back off!! :P

It's for both my xu7 and xu10.

I need to replace the xu7 ones with new xu10 ones for the double valve springs but need the spring seats from the xu10 head also.

I'm not too fussed about destroying them but the way I'm going its going to take a week to remove 32 of the buggers

I'll have a got at fashioning something to remove them over the weekend.

Try turning it to break the stiction, before pulling.

Well it's a piece of p#ss when you have the right tool :) and if you make the right tool it's even better.

Bought a cheap set of long handled pliers from the local market ( cost all of £4 ) and cut a spacer washer in half and welded each half to each prong all la:

Hey presto 10mins later all 32 seals were out of both heads.

I also have a DIY steam seal pliers !

.. and they work as god as any other fancy pricey steam seal pliers , just doesn't look posh ! .. but who cares for the looks if it does the job .
