307 Engine Conversion?

Recommended Posts

Zacky-94

Intrested in a 307 1.4 16v it may need an engine

but the tu5jp4 engine is considerably cheaper to buy

Does anyone know if it is a straight swap from the ET3J4 to TU5JP4 engine bar the ECU oviously

Thanks

Multiplex will kill this conversion off won't it unless yours "straight swap" is Engine, ECU and Loom

Yeah will the jp4 loom fit onto the jp body loom or has it got to be spliced in? ,

aware the engine ecu and loom will have to go in Just wondering if it will go in with any problems etc.

Thanks

It might not tbh, the engine sensors & ecu aren't definately included in the multiplexed cars imo, I know after stripping an 01 plate 406 hdi that the engine & ecu looms are still seperate from the majority of the other systems & don't talk to each other directly other than through the BSI with minimal basic info making a conversion using an loom from a multiplexed car hardly any different to a non multiplex one & I think a few others have also found this but as yet no one has attempted a conversion using a multiplexed loom. :(

I think the biggest problem you may have swapping the engine in a 307 is that the ecu etc are coded together so unless you get an unlocked ecu for use with the donor engine, you'd need the chip from the key, BSI & ecu from the donor for it to be a turn key conversion with working ecu & immobiliser etc.

The ecu's might have the same pinouts & plug so the loom doesn't need touching.

You still need to find the same basic wires to do such a conversion which will be in place.

If anyone has a multiplex loom they don't want, I'd be happy to experiment.

can i ask why you think the original engine is needing replaced? They are fairly easy engines to work on so it might be easier to fix it rather than do a major engine swap

as Graham has said, the new ecu from the tu5jp4 engine will not be read by the bsi meaning it won't start. The bsi + engine ecu need to be paired together

Yeah i understand this as when u change an ecu on a bmw for a second hand part u have to change the ews module and reluctor ring (bsi on a pug ) as i work at a bmw specialist

its got a oil pressure light that comes on when warm and at idle ive read about the oil filters and other comon issues but it was just incase it is gone that was all , i will try and fix it first i wont be taking the lump out for no reason thats for sure!

I dont think im bothering with it now TBH ive got a 205 to be getting on with it was just to make a quick buck thats all

it'll be the oil filter, they are common for bringing the oil lights on. There is a check list to see if the one you have is faulty but just replace it (get a MANN branded one) together with some good quality oil and it'll be fine :)

Yeah ive read that on some fourums the car would have been cheap as chips if they accepted my offer and a genuin filter isnt much so id probly just chuck one in with some oil

but they havnt wrote back needed a clutch aswell they think but its probably the dual mass so id have converted it to solid put a clutch kit in it and flogged it for a decent profit :-) we'll see if they write back , thanks for your help apreciate it alot!

it won't have a dual mass flywheel so it'll just be the clutch ;)

I asked this before on here and didn't get an answer, but aren't dual mass flywheels only on Diesels?

Most of the higher powered variants of the EP, DV and DW are DMF equipped.

Don't know of any EW's or TU's that use one though.
