Cable Operated Conversion For Be3 Gearbox

Recommended Posts

cybernck

I've never looked into it as I've only had bad experience with cable shifter on my old 405 T16,

but now I'm thinking of using it on 205 Mi32 - IF it allows for precise and tight shift to begin with...?

I've done a search but haven't found any conclusive info on what parts to use for the conversion,

but apparently 806 gearbox mechanism and any floor mounted gearstick mechanism should work

when coupled with cables of the right length?

And finally, does anyone have any pics of the gearstick mechanism from below? I need to see it

to be able to work out how to fit another pair of cables going to the rear gearbox :).

Didn't Hilgie use a C5 cable shift for his V6 conversion?

that's not a BE gearbox, but in essence yes Nik get the matching cables and bracketry from a BE equipped vehicle.

Which vehicles would that be? 406 and 806 all 2.0 models?

How do they feel / perform?

And most importantly, I really need to see a photo of the gearstick mechanism from below,

to figure out if it will be possible to attach another set of cables for the rear engine :).

I have used both. I had a cable operated 806 system on my old trackday car.

Anyway...got pics from both if you like. It shouldn't be any problem driving both gearboxes from 1 stick.

Is the Coupe V6 gearshift system the same as on a 2.0 Coupe/Sedan?

The cables are different lengths but otherwise the same yes.

The cables are different lengths but otherwise the same yes.

Only the later D9 generation though isn't it that use cable setup on lower spec models?

Earlier D8 models with BE gearboxes use a conventional gear rod setup as far as I know.

Correct Ant, every D8 I've done a clutch on has been a 1.9 DT with a BE3/4 box and gear rods.

The 2.1 TD and the 2.0 Turbo used ML boxes and cables in a D8, all the same cables as the V6, other than the rare D8 DW10.

looks like the D9 also uses rods on the BE3/4 box other than on the EW engines (which would be XU5/7 and 10), DW's use ML which are all cable.

Sorry I should have said I was meaning specifically the D8 2.0T which I believe used an ML box and had cable shift :) (at least when I was doing my V6 conversion and bought a cable linkage I was sent one from a 2.0T coupe and it had different length cables but was otherwise the same).

Any luck figuring this out. I would like to do this for a BE1. People say the 406 coupe (apprantly before 1998) or a C5. But looking at some systems, the parts needed would surely be the gearbox bracket, a gear stick and could the cables be made custom?

Otherwise it does not look too bad. I have a friend who used the stuff from a Megane I think, but BE4.

Done a bit of research, and come up with some info....

A BE4 cable set should fit, as the bracket on the gearbox looks like it will fit any BE gearbox.

This means that a 206 180 should work, or a xzara / 306
