Powersteering Belt

Anyone know the size/length of the powersteering belt for the phase 1 Mi? Mines stretched loads so it won't adjust so need another. It's just a normal V belt isn't it? Looks like one. Cheers

Peter is correct 10x550

I replaced mine a while back.

I followed the Haynes book (section 1 page 11- blue book) to tension it correctly and after a few weeks of bedding in I retensioned it again.

There's a 1/2" square hole in the bracket which your 1/2" torque wrench will fit into.

The initial tension is 55NM (new belt) and the tension after the belt has bedded in is 30NM (not new belt).

I haven't touched it since and it hasn't been a problem.

My old belt was a toothed type but the new one is plain.

As I say tension is correctly and it shouldn't be a problem.

i put a slightly smaller belt on mine as the one that was meant for the car was to big and i had no adjustment and the square bit you put a 1/2" torque wrench into was rounded off

I think mine probably needs doing too. Can they be had from anywhere or is it a main stealer special?

You can get it from anywhere - it's a standard belt.

The one I took off is a Bosch, The replacement one is a Dayco.

Hmm its proving difficult to get a belt the right size :( Everywhere I go the only answer I get is 'we don't do one that small, it can't be for a car being that small' Anyone know a UK supplier of a 10x550 please?

So is the defo no longer available from Pug?

I was looking at my dads GTI6 other day, similar pump on that engine, only its running directly off of the camshaft instead of via a belt. Why Pug didn't make the XU9J4 like that the fools lol

No Mei, it runs off of the end of the exhaust camshaft so surely they coulda done that on the xu9j4 too.
